My studio practice is about capturing nature and man-made structures together, showing them in harmony or in conflict. My artwork practice is not a commentary on whether industrialisation is good or bad, as the artworks show how nature and the man-made can create new structures, or alter structures in unique ways. The imagery is exaggerated by the post-impressionist influence approach I currently take, as I use a very chromatic palette, making use of saturated colour. The post-impressionist artists that have influenced my artwork are Peter Prendergast and Paul Cezanne. This approach makes my work appear artificial, making an interesting contrast with the natural structures.
The scenes I base my landscape paintings are on compositions I see in person, from which. I create a visual narrative which the perspective are close and low-down compositions as it creates an immersive scene.
I paint with oil on canvas, and I apply an underpaint of burnt sienna on the canvas establish tone and composition, and burnt sienna and to capture nature, as it brings out the green foliage.
